My Heart’s Song

Anyone can love

But it takes a bold heart to say no

No thank you actually I’m good

This feels too much like something I’ve known

That comfort in place of commitment

That straddling of a gray area

Though they may feel great in areas

Which the heart certainly stimulates

I know this warmth is a pot of tea

Posing as a jacuzzi

I’ve seen its life force run dry completely

Burning me

Just to discover I probably would have preferred coffee anyway

Anyone can be loved

But it takes a rare heart to know it would rather be moved

In rhythms which align in synchrony

Symphonies of “I love you”s could maybe stand the test of time

But a shared trajectory

Now that’s a beat I’d love to tap my toes to

Reciprocity in all aspects,

Romance, Spirit, Life..

Like mm yeah talk to me nice

Frost once said

Our fates could all end in fire or ice

I say, Hell is a place I once fell into motions of monotony

Where his heartbeat no longer moved me

But I was too scared to dance to something new

Anyone can say “I love you”

In fact, I’ve written that poem for all my favorite foods

Just as tacos, and adobo

I don’t always feel the mood

I’ve learned it takes a ready heart to say,

“I see you”

And when they don’t, they seek you

in every crowded room

Call you first whenever they get good news

Or maybe right after Mom and their favorite sibling

It takes the right heart to choose you everyday

Even when they’re tempted to stray

The thought of a life without you

Is a reality they simply cannot compute

I’ve loved many a lovable heart

For there is so much in this world to love

Only one has yet lasted until ever after

And that is my own

My heart is a sandstorm over a dry salt bed, hoping one day to be a hurricane

Or perhaps ripples over a frozen lake

Knowing the currents are only a season away

My melody resounds like a song stuck in my head

Knowing my duet wafts somewhere in the distance resonating in harmonies over a morning coffee and a beloved book of daydreams
